Federal Transportation Bill Affects Smokers

There were a lot of good things in the federal transportation bill, but there are some amendments that you may not know about, one of which causing roll-your-own cigarette shops to struggle and possibly close everywhere. So, if you are among those who avoided the pricey packaged cigarettes by buying at roll-your-own shops, you are now out of luck.

Why would the government pass such amendments? Simple, the price paid for the cigarettes rolled in these roll-your-own stores, are a lot cheaper, causing bigger brand cigarettes to lose sales. Since the tobacco used for these types of smokes is pipe tobacco, there are not as many taxes imposed on this type of tabacco. Really, I find that silly, why would any smoking product be exempt from taxes imposed on cigarettes.



The roll-your-own cartons cost between 20 and 30 bucks per carton. A whole lot cheaper than regular cartons cost. So since the big companies and the government are losing money, I guess the “powers that be” decided to put an end to affordable smoking.

There is another way to get cheap cigarettes. Roll your own, right in your own home. No, you don’t need that huge machine, you can find a perfectly good hand crank model here.The filtered tubes can also be found here.

The initial purchase price for the machine, some tubes and tobacco is about as much as a carton of regular smokes, but once you get everything and start rolling your own, you are going to pay roughly 8 bucks a carton.

Rolling your own smokes can be fun. There are many different types and flavors of tobacco that can be purchased. The variety sold here is a nicotine free tobacco.  You can get many different flavors, including menthol, cherry, vanilla, and so on. Heck, I bet you could even create your own unique to you flavors.

So, until they tax the crap out of pipe tobacco, smoke cheap and roll your own. If they start taxing the heck out of the pipe tobacco, then maybe we should learn to grow and process our own tobacco. There is a book for that, here, and seeds a plenty.
